Octopals are therapeutic aids, which are popular in the NICU ( Neonatal intensive care unit), that are placed in the incubator with a preemie.
Octopals are used to prevent babies from gripping and pulling out any tubes or monitors, in the hopes they will grab on the tentacles instead.
The tentacles act as a calming aid: they replicate the umbilical cord, which babies hold onto in the womb !
